Final slacking week …

August 28, 2008

I think I haven’t been making good use of my spare time, especially since I only have a couple more days left to enjoy the life of a bum before I start working again next Monday.

I am trying to recall what I have been up to over the last few days … how very unexciting!

Monday : I had a sudden impulse to go for a dip in the pool, so I went to swim in the afternoon. Due to time constraint, I only managed a mere 25 laps before meeting Michael for a late lunch at Old Town followed by uberlicious ice cream (though overpriced in my opinion) at Ice Cream Chef. The rest of the day was spent slacking at home watching drama serials online. [ I watched 17 episodes of 溏心风暴II之家好月圆 back to back! Very tiring to keep crying man!]

Tuesday : Slacked at home, followed by lunch at a Japanese restaurant called Hokkaido Sushi Restaurant at M Hotel with my uncle and grandma. Yummy stuff, slightly pricey (the bill was about $230 for 3 people, but if you go for the set lunches, they are not very ex), service was not great perhaps because the place has only been opened for a month or so and a lot of the staff seemed kind of inexperienced. The place is opened by the folks that runs Tomo Fine Dining, so a lot of the food are similar, and despite the less than desirable service, I must say that the standard of the food is still pretty much up there. And for the second time, I tried the sea urchin. I think there is not going to be a third time. Even though it is a delicacy to most people, I find the taste and especially the texture a little ‘hard to accept’. The chawanmushi with fish egg was to die for though. Went home after lunch to indulge in more drama serial, then cabbed down to Bugis for some shopping before heading for spinning. 2 new dresses! I am officially a pauper now!

Wed : DISGUSTING WEATHER. Argh! Shall not talk about it, makes me angry just thinking about the crazy weather! Spent a couple of hours at Timbre with Michael & Cui, good fun!

I am still craving for the teochew porridge at Suntec! Anyone keen? =)

New lappie for moi

August 22, 2008

My 3+ years old Dell laptop died on me on Wed night. So I got myself a new baby on Thurs because I can’t stand not having a laptop to use for more than 24 hours. Brought my Dell down to B’s shop at Sim Lim for him to check it out, and to see if I can retrieve some stuff from my hard disk. Managed to get all my MP3s and a portion of my photos. A lot of precious photos from last time are gone, B is still trying to see if he can get those files back for me, but I am not pinning much hopes on that since my hard disk is pretty much dead already. Anyway, I got myself a spanking new lappie, it is gorgeous and I got it at a really good price. I am afterall *ahem* ‘childhood sweetheart’ *blush* and hence I am ‘entitled’ to a special price! Hurhur!

Check out my new baby!

And this is me testing out the lappie’s camera!

[ok please excuse my half dead zombified makeupless face. I was about to go to bed already.]

A girly afternoon

August 22, 2008

After a couple of failed attempts to meet up with Peiwen and Shandy, we finally caught up at Coffee Bean on Wed afternoon. First some munchies, then some shopping. A few photos from our girly afternoon meetup:

Farewell Capital

August 18, 2008

Over the weekend, I received 2 emails. The first one was from one of the RMs who was not in office on my last day, and the second one from my ex-boss who was also away the whole of last week. Both emails made me smile. The one from the RM is short and sweet wishing me well and thanking me for the work I have done. The one from my wacky ex-boss starts with “Hi Princess Sam” and there is a brief mention of him saying that he thinks he looks like Johnny Depp (private joke).

Damn, I miss work already.

A pity I went around snapping pictures with my ex-colleagues too late, so quite a number of them had already left office and I didn’t get a chance to say bye properly nor take a photo with them. Anyway, here are the photos taken last Thursday.

After 48 years …

We have a silver medal in the Olympics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am so so so so so proud and happy! (I don’t care that our 3 table tennis girls were born in China ok? They have been here a while now, they represent Singapore, and the fact is that it is a silver medal FOR SINGAPORE!)

The matches were awesome. The world number 1 and number 2 are incredible. The speed and power were just unbelievable, but our girls played well and put up a good fight. And for that, I am uber proud of the Singapore team!

A SILVER MEDAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

*claps happily watching the prize giving ceremony*

p/s: I adore the Japanese team. Ai Fukuhara is adorable!

p/ss: I really like Feng Tian Wei!

p/sss: ok I admit it. When the China national anthem came on, for one split second, I wondered if our atheletes would unconsciously sing along with 3/4 of the stadium. Heh.

Day One

August 15, 2008

Today marks the beginning of my temporarily unemployed status (for the next 2 weeks). I start my new job on September 1 and in the meantime, I intend to make good use of my between-jobs break.

Perhaps changing jobs to some people is not a big deal, but for me, this change IS a pretty big deal. To be honest, I have no real idea of what I am getting myself into. I can’t quite gauge what things are going to be like, I can only play it by the ear and hope for the best. I feel like I am venturing into the unknown without being equipped with the necessary ‘tools’, and having no real backup plan to fall back on. At best, I am mentally prepared for a challenging time ahead. That means longer hours, learning as much as possible as fast as possible, lesser time for gym, and delivering above expectations results. It is both scary and very exciting.

As for why I decided to start a new blog, I guess I am just kind of tired with the old one. Moreover, I feel like I am about to embark on a brand new journey, so this is probably the best time for me to start a new blog.

I have a bunch of photos which I need to sort out before I can post them up. And hopefully wordpress will not be too complicated for my not-so-IT-savvy mind.

TTFN!
